Make with MAAM feat. Alex Makes Art
Join us for a special edition of Make with MAAM featuring artist, educator, and community facilitator Alex Adamo (Alex Makes Art)! Enjoy hands-on activities inspired by our current exhibition Masako Miki: Midnight March. Experiment with fiber arts in the Barkan Family Big Ideas Studio and gather inspiration from the work of visiting artist Alex Adamo during our regular drop-in artmaking event.
Meet Alex Adamo/Alex Makes Art
Alex Adamo-Cioffredi is a Cambridge-based artist, educator, and founder of Alex Makes Art (AMA) who believes creativity lives in all of us and should be accessible to everybody. She brings people together through hands-on art experiences that are sustainable, joyful, and carefully curated – rooted in imagination and designed to create spaces where connection feels effortless and everyone belongs.
With a background shaped by university studies, mentorship, and years of community-centered practice, Alex has taught across intergenerational settings, from classrooms to public spaces, building environments where creativity can truly thrive. She currently teaches fiber arts at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, while continuing to deepen her engagement with New England’s fiber and maker communities.
Working primarily with sheep’s wool and secondhand fibers, Alex is especially drawn to braids, curves, dreamlike forms, and richly layered color. She often creates custom blends using a carding drum, transforming intentionally sourced and foraged materials into one-of-a-kind sculptures that feel both grounded and quietly electric. Lately, her work has begun to incorporate embedded trinkets, treasured fragments, filaments, and unexpected findings, creating striking contrasts between the natural and the recycled, the soft and the sharp, the familiar and the reimagined.
Alex finds endless inspiration in her mischievous English Angora bunny, Rufus, and the neighborhood recycling bin. She is always on the lookout for everyday materials that can be transformed into something unexpected, meaningful, and a little bit magical.
