Faculty Guide
Teaching Beyond the Classroom
MAAM proudly serves as the teaching museum for MassArt and has a passionate mission to educate, inspire, and empower future generations of artists, designers, and educators—both on campus and beyond. The Museum is an extension of the classroom, a place where faculty and students interact with contemporary art and learn more about the inspiration and artists behind the works on view.
Use this guide to discover the many ways in which MAAM can be of benefit to you and your students.
World Class. Bite-Sized.
MAAM strives to open eyes, expand minds, and create opportunity through the lens of contemporary art. The museum offers you and your students access to world class art and artists, right here on campus.
All of our exhibitions and programs complement the wide array of disciplines offered at MassArt. We believe that engagement with works of art and design object-based learning fuels the creative process, ignites the imagination, and furthers intellectual inquiry.
OPPORTUNITIES
Below you’ll discover a few ways in which you and your students can engage with MAAM. We look forward to working with you to bring your ideas to life.
Bring your students to MAAM
We look forward to welcoming you and your students to MAAM for an independent exploration of our exhibitions and museum spaces or a customized experience facilitated by a museum curator, educator, or staff member.
Request a visit to indicate your interest in a guided or self-guided experience at MAAM.
To ensure your group receives the best experience possible and to confirm availability, please request a visit at least two weeks prior to your preferred date.
Incorporate an artwork or exhibition featured at MAAM into your course curriculum.
We work closely with MassArt faculty to incorporate exhibitions, artworks, and featured artists at MAAM into the academic curriculum here at MassArt.
Ongoing partnerships with Studio Foundations; Thinking, Making, Writing; and Art Education faculty position the museum as a lab for learning and academic and professional growth.
Attend an event.
Throughout the year we organize and co-sponsor many events that promote interaction with our exhibitions, encourage community building across and beyond the campus, and oh and did we mention—they’re fun!
