Art on the Plaza Past
Chalk Fest
This summer, gather on the Arne Glimcher Plaza at MAAM for Art on the Plaza, a new series featuring artmaking and fun for all ages! The Plaza will come to life with outdoor activities and music for our neighbors in Fenway, Mission Hill, Roxbury, and beyond. All are welcome!
Saturday July 9, join MAAM and artist Zahirah Nur Truth for an afternoon of sidewalk chalk fun with live music offered in partnership with Fenway Porchfest. Share your connections to birth and motherhood using colorful chalk, fun imagery, and vibrant patterns that bring the Plaza to life!
While you’re here, enjoy drop-in activities in the Barkan Family Big Ideas Studio and check out our current exhibitions Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births and Joana Vasconcelos: Valkyrie Mumbet.
Zahirah Nur Truth is a multifaceted artist with a varied art practice including illustration, painting, mural art, jewelry design/metalsmithing, and performance and spoken word/acting. Zahirah, affectionately known as Da Artist ZNT, strives to create art that invokes joy, representation, empowerment, and thought.
Zahirah believes the role of an artist is to uplift and inspire! She can be found speaking at workshops and panels on topics including art as a tool for self-care as well as social justice and racism in arts education. She balances all of this as a mom and entrepreneur.
Free with registration.
Sidewalk chalk will be available for the first 200 registered participants. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held Sunday, July 10, 2022.
