Fazal Sheikh is dedicated to furthering the world's understanding of complex human rights issues though his artwork. Growing up in the United States and his father's native Kenya and traveling extensively as an adult, he has seen stark inequalities that have helped shape his mission. Sheikh's captivating photographs often document displaced and marginalized communities around the globe. He works closely with the sitters to create portraits that honor their dignity and counter the prejudice they endure. He strives to disseminate the work as widely as possible in forms that are useful to the represented communities and works alongside human rights organizations as an extension of his unwavering commitment to these issues.
