Andres Serrano is an American artist whose photographs often explore difficult and controversial subjects such as sex, death, torture, race, bigotry, and homelessness. In the late 1980s, Serrano’s Piss Christ became a focal point of the culture wars, a societal-wide debate about freedom of expression, artistic responsibility, and government funding of potentially offensive artwork.
